Cheaper Brazilian Passport in Spain: New Fees in Effect

Since June 1, 2026, a significant change has made life easier for those who need to keep their Brazilian documentation up-to-date while living in Spain. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs implemented a reduction of about 50% in consular fees for issuing common passports, addressing an old demand from the Brazilian community abroad.

New Issuance Prices

The new Consular Emoluments Table established three price brackets, making the process much more affordable, especially for families with children:

Over 18 years: €60.
Brazilians between 4 and 18 years: €40.
Under 4 years: €20.

This initiative aims to encourage all citizens, including the children of Brazilians born in Spanish territory, to keep their passports updated. Having a valid document is essential not only for international travel but also as a way to ensure full consular identification on Spanish soil.

How to Apply for Your Passport

Since this decision comes from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the reduction applies to the entire Brazilian consular network in Spain — both those under the jurisdiction of the General Consulate of Brazil in Madrid and the General Consulate of Brazil in Barcelona. The application process has not changed structurally, but it is now financially lighter. All consular services must be initiated through the e-consular system.

The step-by-step process is simple:

Access the e-consular system with your gov.br account.
Fill out the electronic application form for a passport.
Upload the required documentation (such as birth certificate, voter's title, among other documents listed in the system).
After validation of the documents by the consulate, the system will provide instructions for paying the consular fee at the new reduced rate.
