With around one million applications registered, according to data from CEAR (Comisión Española de Ayuda al Refugiado), many have been asking what this means in practice for us, Brazilians.

Who is eligible?

This is an exceptional process aimed at those who were already on Spanish territory before January 1, 2026. The goal is to include people in irregular situations or asylum seekers seeking a way to regularize their stay and access the job market.

Important rules about deadlines

A point that generates many doubts is the validity of documentation. If you are already in the process, remember: modification can be requested up to two months before the expiration date of your authorization and up to three months after it expires, provided the requirements of the Extranjería Regulation are met.

What if I don't meet all the requirements?

Not everything is lost if you do not immediately fulfill all traditional criteria. There is a provision for an extension of the regularization authorization for specific cases, as long as you prove one of the following situations:

Active job search: Being duly registered with SEPE (Servicio Público de Empleo Estatal).
Inability to work: If there are justified reasons preventing access to employment, such as serious illness, proven disability, or having reached retirement age.

What is happening now?

The government is already in the processing phase. We have received reports that provisional authorizations are being sent to various regions of Spain after a detailed review of each application. If you submitted your documentation correctly and do not have pending procedures, admission confirmation should follow the normal flow of the Extranjería system.

Important recommendation: Keep your contact information always updated with the agency where you filed your process. Given the extremely high volume of requests (almost one million applications), public administration is working under intense demand. Be patient but regularly check the status through the official portal.
