Social Bonus 2026: Understand the Funding in Your Electricity Bill

The publication of Order TED/634/2026 in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on June 25, 2026, brought important definitions about how Spain's electrical system will cover the costs of protecting vulnerable consumers this year.

What was decided in this regulation?

In practice, the new order defines the unit values and the distribution of funding for the Social Bonus and the cost of electricity supply for consumers protected under Articles 52.4.j) and 52.4.k) of Law 24/2013 on the Electricity Sector. These articles essentially deal with consumers who have a legal right to social discounts and the associated charges.

Although the common consumer does not need to perform any administrative procedures due to this order, it is the legal mechanism that ensures electricity sector companies (traders, distributors, and transporters) bear the cost of these subsidies. The value you see on your bill as "system costs" or "charges" is directly linked to this type of regulation.
