Digital Nomad Visa in Spain 2026: Minimum Income Rises to €2,849

In 2026, the minimum income required for the digital nomad visa in Spain rose to €2,849/month — a rise of €86 from 2025. This change is due to the increase in the Spanish Interprofessional Minimum Wage (SMI), adjusted by Royal Decree 126/2026, published on February 18, 2026.
The Values: Before and After
| 2025 | 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum Monthly Income (Applicant) | €2,763 | €2,849 |
| + 1 Adult Dependent | +€1,035 | +€1,066 |
| + Minor Dependent | +€690 | +€710 |
The calculation follows the official formula: 200% of the annual SMI ÷ 12. With the 2026 SMI set at €1,221/month in 14 payments (€17,094/year), double that amount is €34,188/year — or €2,849/month.
The difference from 2025 is +€86 per month. This may seem small, but candidates who were using bank statements at the previous limit need to update their proof of income.
The Impact on Brazilians
The digital nomad visa has been the main entry point for Brazilians working remotely and wanting to legally reside in Spain. The income requirement is not new — what changes each year is the floor, updated along with the Spanish SMI.
In practice: if you receive in reais and will prove your income converted into euros, the exchange rate comes into play. With the euro quoted near R$6.20, the €2,849 equates to about R$17,660/month gross that needs to be documented — against R$17,130 required in 2025.
What You Need to Prove
The Unidad de Grandes Empresas y Colectivos Estratégicos (UGE), responsible for analyzing these requests, accepts the following forms of proof:
- CLT or service contract: bank statements from the last 3 months showing income
- Own business: revenue from the last 3–6 months (accounting declarations)
- Multiple sources of income: the sum can be used as long as it is properly documented
The documents must be apostilled and, if in Portuguese, accompanied by a sworn translation into Spanish.
Practical Tips to Avoid Rejection Due to Documentation
- Use gross income, not net income. The Spanish government considers income before Brazilian taxes.
- Do not mix currencies in the statements. If part of your income comes in dollars, include the conversion to euros using the European Central Bank rate on the date of the statements.
- Update documents before submitting them. Statements more than 3 months old from the application date are often rejected.
